Well, FWIW, my Audax LF units started life at ~100 dB and wound up closer to 96 dB to get ~40 Hz from them via ~ 4.75 cu. ft. BR boxes. Computer tuning was very close, only a strip of rubber weatherstripping in the vent opening between be...

Yep, you re right, the Yamamoto A-06S is SET, I did not read it carefully and I was under presumption that A-06S is PP monoblock. Good for Yamamoto! The only amps I heard with AD1 were PP. Somewhere in the very end 90s I shortly was exposed to i...

Thanks for the extra information, Merlin, it tells much. Please re-read the post you took umbrage with and you will see that I said I took a guess about the circuit (once you confirmed the amp's identiy), and I did not say that I guessed t...

The problems I've had with small DHTs have had nothing to do with tone, which has been SOTA in some cases, IMO. The cheap-o Wright's 6SN7/2A3 pairing is excellent with respect to tone and even with respect to "authority", within its limits...
If you have a chance to hear Lamm ML2.0 then try them...
I wanted to do that, but they are so rare and I found nobody to visit. But honestly, I am not so fanatic, I was looking for something which doesn't make me ...

I'm working on a project that may be of interest to others, and thought posting to this old thread was a better way than beginning a new post.I use speaker level passive crossovers, between multi-amps (not DSET) and drivers. My desire is to move the...
OK, would you say the weak link would then be:1) Just the topology of Lamhorn (single driver with back-loaded horn appendix)2) Any single driver back-loaded loudspeaker in general3) Or any single driver loudspeaker in generalOr p...

if they don't try something first and report back on occasion?I finally ran out of patience and tried the damn automotive dielectric grease myself on the pins of 4 new tubes I just put in the Lamms. I also for the first time and again...

Thanks for alternate driver idea, Romy. Sounds interesting.I certainly do not need all the gain from the ML2 along with my AI M3A phono/pre-amp, so I will give the 5687 family a try once I figure out a decent, fool proof pin-out adapt...

Greg, do you have any experience with the Eminence drivers? When the Audax PR380M2 I use (8 Ohm) became unavailable, Dick Osher specified the 15" Eminence driver as a drop-in substitute for the BZ series.I happen to use a single 15 " Au...

I like the way Steve Bench writes. His understanding is so clear it almost shines through my ignorance.Obviously I am still a long way from understanding these things in either abstract or amp-specific terms, but one part of the volta...
Romy, you may be right in suggesting that I am "going a little crazy in there" (I consider this a compliment btw)... so for now I decided to try some locally sourced precision metal film resistors (Vishays are not that eas...

Romy,Thanks for the info on alternative manufacturers.
The resistors I found locally seem to be working super well (precision metal film... didn't ask who made them...they are all black and cost EUR 2.80 each). I may eventually replace these with RN...

Well, I hope that Romy is the only one who still thinks I'm tube rolling, because this post is even farther afield (although it is almost a spin off from the previous posts about AC/grounding).I finally got around to adding not-terrible po...

Ok so I made a couple voltage dividers fo...

So what are we to make of a product like the ML2 amps (using them here only as an example, not a topic)? I have to say I more or less took a flyer on these, since I never heard them in a system I could stand before I up and bought the...
Roman, could you (or enybody ) elaborate a little bit on JBL L8 and its application ? Not so much sensible info on the net besides that its a fullrange usefull in 40Hz-8kHz.
I do not know, how can I elaborate if I never ...

The cool thing is how Lamm figured out how to get one's attention off the window, albeit, apparently, through a fairly didactic program of "organizing", "correcting" and/or "mitigating" certain information he realized contributed to that particular d...

With the electricity being so bad my listening has been limited, and what I've been hearing has shifted my focus somewhat, which is annoying, to be sure, but it is also educational. I have been playing around with plate loading a little and not...

I have seen some people built 834P with alternative input and output tubes but I never heard them. I personally tried all imaginable 12AX7-type tubes (AZ, AT, AU, 6N2P and many others) in 834P. Some other triodes were king of better “here and there” ...
I tried Amperex ECC83 "Bugle Boy". They sounded bad in the EAR RIAA. I like more modern Amperex ECC83, Holland made with orange-red prints.
Yes, the Amperex "Bugle Boy" are horrible tubes. They have huge publicity amon...

I am getting a dedicated third amp to drive my upper bass channel and I just figured out that when I go with my midrange channel at the line level passive filter then I would need 0.0000302uF capacitor against the amp's input stage, that means… 30pF…...

Romy, my experience with the Lundahl amorphous core transformenrs is limited to my new phono stage, and I have have been dealing other issues enough that I am not ready to write much about it yet.Still, there are qualities worth noting...

Given enough time (and enough distance), most "randomness" adopts (or appears to adopt) some sort of a "pattern" or patterns. This appears at the rote level to be yet another variant of the old "musical versus accurate" conundrum. Yes, the idea ...

Possible, I never was a big fun of 6E5P without Milq type of bias. I remember what when I did the simple fixed bias when a few year back I was trying to make Milq to sound “contestable” with ML2 it was racy and jumpy sound but nothing special. I feel...

KOT, as you may know, the ML2 has a BIG transformer to make "36 Watts" at clipping; but even with this and the trick feedback it is not the first choice for large dynamic/OB drivers. Of course I mention this because of your remarks about the 6C33C, ...

Well, David Berning is about as clever as they come, Merlin, that's for sure, and you don't hear David making a lot of claims for his gear. That whole step-up, HF PS/carrier idea is pretty cool, all right; I think Carver did one, too, year...

Hi Romy,I am very interested in what you have found out about the 6C33C tube lifetime because I am using a pair of Silvaweld OTL tube reference (their name for them not mine) amps that use 4 x 6C33C-b tubes per monoblock (so a total of 8). Thes...

Well, most metals in air simply corrode over time; we all know that. And running a little current through it can hasten the process. To pick an extreme example, I lived at the beach for nearly 30 years, and ALL connections were ...

I wish I had other sources for reference, since it's obvious (even to me) that the amps will only sound as good as what they are fed (and what they feed). I think I still have my old CD player around, somewhere, while I wait for my iD...
